Fun Fact: Ludington State Park is a stone's throw away (okay, not with our wimpy arms...) from where Julia and Steve first laid eyes on each other. 'Twas at the legendary Camp Douglas Smith, a *very* rustic retreat where Grand Valley's cross country team would go to bond, run in sand, and perform sometimes bizarre manual labor in return for ramshackle lodging and fun times. Did we mention it was rustic??
Ludington State Park is currently closed for renovations until July 1, 2025. They must have heard that we were all coming and decided they needed to spruce the place up a bit. That could be a tree pun if there are spruce trees here.
We have the utmost faith you will be able to find the shelter we reserved, but some of us are visual learners, so here's a little map! Don't worry, no one is allowed to hunt us if we stay west of that dotted line. For a full park and trail map Click Here
There is a concession stand right near our picnic shelter with all the classics - pizza, hot dogs, hamburgers, ice cream. The same fare is available at the beach house on Lake Michigan too. Neither concession stand has a Michelin star yet, so feel free to bring in your own picnic supplies and beverages or you can make a quick dash into Ludington, which is only 15 minutes away!
(besides eat and chat, which goes without saying but we felt we had to say it anyway)
from mostly flat boardwalks, to strenuous climbs
Lake Michigan or Lake Hamlin, pick your poison! Or Lost Lake if you can find it...
No promises, but there may be beach volleyball courts too.
Rent a Kayak/Canoe to explore Lake Hamlin, or rent a tube and float down the river to Lake Michigan
We are going to do all these things and more! Can't wait to share the day with everyone who can make it!
